Don't Fight the Current: Why Embracing Life's Seasons Changes Everything

Hey, what's going on, everybody?

Right now, we are physically going through a season change, transitioning from fall into winter. But just like nature changes, seasons in life change, and so do we. We have to learn to embrace that change and view it in the proper perspective.

Stop Fighting the Current

Embracing Life's Seasons Changes

Life gets easier when we stop fighting change and start flowing with the transitions. Fighting against change is like fighting a current. You're going to tire yourself out and feel all that resistance. You’re not going to always be on the mountaintop, and you're not going to always be in the valley. You're not always going to be in a place where you're just coasting; sometimes you may need to accelerate, mash the gas, or even sprint.

A huge part of embracing the season is learning to let go of seasons that are past or over. Old ways aren't going to get you through new seasons or new environments. You can’t hold on to the same mindset or mentality you had in the previous season. We can’t put new wine in old wine skins.

We see this even in the natural world: You can’t continue trying to plant tomatoes in December the same way you once did outside. You have to change your approach, maybe move to greenhouse gardening.

Embrace the New Responsibilities

Embracing Life's Seasons Changes

When seasons change in your life, whether it’s moving from being an adolescent to an adult, or getting the blessings you prayed for, like more land or livestock, you have to embrace the new mindset, the new work ethic, and the new responsibilities that come with that transition.

A great example is health. Once you become enlightened and realize that they are playing with our food source, you can’t just go back to the matrix. You have to embrace eating cleaner, eating more natural, reading labels, cooking from scratch, and avoiding processed foods.

Or think about relationships. You may be in a season in your marriage where you can’t just go on autopilot like before. Now, you have to be intentional. You might need more date nights and dedicated time with each other. The same goes for parenting: you can’t treat a teenager the same way you treated a 10-year-old; you have to move with the season and respect their new stage in life.

You have to ask yourself: What does this next season look like for you?. What does winter look like?. For me, winter may be a time for building infrastructure and clearing land because that’s the best time to do it. For you, winter may look like taking a necessary rest and reset because you’ve been working hard all summer, spring, and fall.

Don’t Rush It, Maximize It

Embracing Life's Seasons Changes

Here’s the final point: You can’t rush seasons, but you can maximize them.

Sometimes you might be in a difficult season, a proving season, a trying season, or a purging season. You can’t rush it; you have to go through it. Think about gold being refined: the impurities have to be burned out in the fire, and you can’t rush that process if you want pure gold.

The children of Israel were in the wilderness, and they were supposed to learn something and maximize that season. Instead, they murmured, complained, and wanted to go back into bondage in Egypt. They failed to maximize their faith and appreciate that the Most High was sustaining them. Because they didn't learn the lessons, they had to stay in that wilderness season for 40 years, and only a few from that generation (Joshua and Caleb) made it to the promised land.

Don't die in the season that you're in because you don't want to learn the lessons that need to be learned. You may be in a season right now where you need to pray more, fast more, or unplug from the world for a little while to consecrate yourself with the Most High. Embrace that.

When you embrace the season you are in and learn what you need to learn, you can grow and enjoy the next season that you come into. But when you fight the change and don't learn the lessons, you end up repeating the cycle.
