Let’s Get Serious About Our Food

What’s going on, family? Shalom. I wanna talk about something heavy on me lately: our food.

What we eat, where it comes from, and what’s really in it. Because the truth is, most of us don’t think twice about what’s going on our plates anymore. We trust labels. We trust companies. We trust that if it’s on a shelf, it’s probably safe. But that’s where we’ve messed up.

We Gotta Wake Up About What We’re Eating

Let’s Get Serious About Our Food

See, we’ve gotten comfortable letting other people decide what goes into our bodies. We walk through grocery stores, grab boxes, bags, cans, whatever looks good, and we don’t even question it.

We just eat it.

And the crazy thing is, half the time, it ain’t even food. It’s a mix of chemicals, dyes, fillers, and things we can’t pronounce. You ever flip something around and read that ingredient list? It’ll make you stop mid-bite.

When did eating become so complicated? When did food stop being food?

The Food Industry Knows What It’s Doing

The system we live in is built on profit, not nourishment. They know how to make things taste good enough to keep you hooked, cheap enough to keep you coming back, and processed enough to sit on a shelf for two years.

They’re not trying to feed you. They’re trying to sell to you. That’s why they put words like natural or healthy or whole grain on boxes that ain’t got a single natural thing in them. They bank on you not reading past the front label.

But once you start learning, once you start paying attention, you can’t unsee it.

Read the Labels, Then Read Them Again

I remember when we first started reading food labels at home. And I’m talking really reading them. It was wild, man.

We found pork and gelatin in things that didn’t need pork or gelatin. We found lard hiding in boxed cornbread mix. Candy with ingredients that made no sense. Stuff labeled as “beef” or “chicken” that had all kinds of fillers in it.

And the thing is, most folks don’t know. They don’t even think to check. Because we were raised to just trust the system. But once you see it, you can’t go back. That’s when I said, “Nah, we gotta start paying attention. We gotta get serious about this.”

If You Don’t Know What’s In It, You Don’t Know What’s In You

Think about it. We tell our kids, “Don’t put that in your mouth; you don’t know where it’s been.”But as adults, we’re out here eating whatever comes in a wrapper.

We can’t be preaching discipline, health, and stewardship and then eat garbage because it’s easy. We’re supposed to take care of the bodies God gave us.

What we eat affects how we think, how we feel, how we move. Food ain’t just something to fill your belly; it’s fuel. It’s medicine. Or it’s poison. And every bite is a choice.

Fast Food Ain’t Real Food

Now I know we all get busy. Life moves fast. But listen, most fast food ain’t food at all. It’s a chemical combination made to taste good and keep you coming back.

You ever wonder why you crave it, even when you know it’s bad? It’s designed that way.

You eat it, you feel full, but you’re still tired. You’re still dragging. That’s because your body didn’t get fed; it got filled. There’s a difference.

We’ve traded nourishment for convenience, and now we’re paying for it with our health.

Grow Something, Even If It’s Small

I’m not saying everybody needs a big farm or acres of land. But you can start somewhere. A little garden box. Some herbs on a windowsill. A tomato plant on your porch.

When you grow something yourself, you start to understand food in a whole new way. You respect it. You see how long it takes. You learn patience. You appreciate every bite.

And if you can’t grow it, find somebody who does. Support your local farmers, your community growers, the folks who still care about real food. When you spend your money locally, you’re feeding your community, not a corporation.

You Can Taste the Difference

If you’ve ever eaten a real tomato, not the ones from the store, but one straight off the vine, you know what I mean. You can taste the sun in it. You can taste the life in it.

That’s real food. That’s how it’s supposed to be. The stuff we buy off shelves? It’s been sprayed, waxed, preserved, processed, and shipped halfway around the world. We’ve gotten so far removed from our food that most kids don’t even know where it comes from anymore. That’s not just sad; that’s dangerous.

They’re Controlling Us Through Convenience

Now this part might make some folks uncomfortable, but it’s real. The more dependent you are on them for food, the more control they have over you. If they shut down the trucks, what are you gonna eat? If the shelves go empty, how you gonna feed your family?

That’s why growing even a little bit of your own food matters. That’s why learning to cook from scratch matters. That’s why paying attention matters.

Because he who controls your food controls your freedom.

We Gotta Take It Back

This ain’t about going off-grid or doing everything yourself. It’s about awareness. About taking back ownership of what you feed your body and your family. Start by reading labels. Start by cooking more. Start by growing something, even if it’s small.

The point is to stop being so disconnected from what keeps us alive.

If we don’t know where our food comes from, how can we really say we’re living intentionally?

Final Word: It’s Time to Get Serious

Family, I’m saying all this because we gotta wake up. We can’t just keep eating what’s convenient and hope for the best. You can’t say you want to live better but keep feeding your body worse. You can’t ask God to bless your health while you’re ignoring what you’re putting in your body.

We gotta get serious. Not scared. Not extreme. Just serious. Serious about knowing what’s on our plates. Serious about growing our own when we can. Serious about feeding our bodies and spirits real food, not cheap fillers.

Because the truth is, when we get serious about our food, we get serious about our future.

So let’s do better, family. Start small, stay consistent, and take your food and your power back.
