Hey fam, how y’all doing today? I’ve been thinking about why we really do all this… the gardening, the prepping, the building, the saving. You know, some days it’s easy to get caught up in the work, in the weather, in the setbacks, and forget the why behind it all.

For me, it’s not just about growing food. It’s about growing freedom. It’s about building something solid that can’t be taken away. Something that feeds my spirit as much as it feeds my table.

Why We Do This?

The Real Reason We Do This

The Beauty of Small Beginnings

I know a lot of you are just getting started, and it can feel like too much. You see other people online with acres of land, big barns, and fancy setups, and you think, “I’ll never get there.” But fam, we all start small.

Maybe it’s one raised bed. Maybe it’s a few herbs on the windowsill. Maybe it’s learning how to fix a fence or make compost for the first time.

Every little thing counts. Every small win matters. You don’t need perfection; you just need consistency.

Because when you stay steady, it builds. Those little actions, such as watering, weeding, learning, trying again,  stack up. And before you know it, you’ve got something real.

The Work Nobody Sees

Here’s the truth.  This life looks peaceful on the outside, but it’s work. Real work.

Early mornings, sore muscles, learning through failure. The things that don’t make it on camera, the bugs that eat your plants, the rain that washes out your seeds, the nights when you wonder if it’s all worth it.

But listen… that’s where the growth happens. Not just in the garden. In you.

Every mistake, every setback, teaches you patience. Teaches you to listen. Teaches you that nature runs on its own time.

And that’s a reminder for life too. You can’t rush it. You just keep showing up.

Connection Over Convenience

Some folks ask, “Why go through all that when I can just buy food at the store?”

Because what we’re doing is deeper than convenience. It’s a connection.

When you grow your own food, you start to understand how the earth gives back. You see the cycle: seed, soil, sun, harvest. You learn gratitude in a way that’s hard to explain.

It changes how you see everything. You waste less. You share more. You eat slower. You respect the process.

That connection. That's the part the world’s missing. And that’s what we’re trying to get back to.

 The Reward in the Waiting

Fam, gardening teaches you to wait. To trust that just because you don’t see growth doesn’t mean nothing’s happening.

You plant something today, and for weeks it looks like nothing’s going on. But under the soil, it’s alive. Roots are forming, systems are building, and one day it just breaks through.

That’s life too. Sometimes it looks quiet, but there’s growth happening in the unseen.

So if you’re in that stage where it feels like nothing’s moving, don’t give up. Your season’s coming.

Doing It for the Future

I want my kids, and your kids, to know what real food tastes like. To know where it comes from. To have memories of picking something they planted, not just opening a can.

Every time we plant, preserve, or build, we’re leaving something behind that lasts. Even if nobody’s clapping. Even if it’s slow. Even if the world says it’s old-fashioned.

🌻 Lessons from the Land

Every part of this journey has a lesson in it.

🌿 When it rains, it teaches surrender.🌿 When it’s dry, it teaches perseverance.🌿 When things grow, it teaches gratitude.🌿 When things die, it teaches humility.

The land is the best teacher. It doesn’t rush; it doesn’t complain; it just is.

If we can live more like that, steady, patient, open, everything changes.

You Don’t Need to Know It All

Fam, don’t let not knowing stop you. Nobody started as an expert. I didn’t know how to build a coop, mix compost, or cure vegetables. I learned as I went, one YouTube video, one book, one experiment at a time.

That’s what I want you to hear today: you don’t have to know everything to start. Just start.

Learn something new each season. Keep notes. Ask questions. Build community.

Your confidence grows right alongside your plants.

 Gratitude for the Journey

Sometimes we get so focused on the harvest that we forget to enjoy the process.

So take a minute today to walk through your garden, or just sit outside, breathe in, and say thank you for the sun, the soil, the breath in your lungs, the chance to grow something new.

That gratitude shifts everything.

Because even on the hard days, when the weeds won’t quit and the bugs won’t back off, you’re still blessed to be here, learning, creating, becoming.

Final Thoughts

Fam, this life we’re building is not for show. It’s for substance.

We’re not chasing trends; we’re building traditions. We’re not trying to escape the world; we’re trying to live better inside it.

So if you’re tired, if you feel like it’s slow, if it looks like no one sees your effort,  keep going.

The soil remembers. The seeds remember. The work will speak.

Stay patient. Stay steady. Keep your hands in the dirt and your heart full of faith.
