Food Strategy: Grow What You Eat and Master Your Seeds

What’s going on, fam?. I’m bringing you some exclusive content to help you get ahead of the game. If you’re just getting into homesteading or you’re looking to take your land to the next level, you need a real strategy for your food. We’re talking about prioritizing your food first and mastering the art of seed saving.

Master Your Seeds...

Master Your Seeds

Stop the "Shiny Object Syndrome"

When you first get out on your land, it’s easy to get what I call "shiny object syndrome". You want to grow pretty flowers, the exotic vegetables, and all this, that, and the third. But look, you have to prioritize your food first.

Think about everything that you actually eat. If you eat a lot of eggs, you need to be looking at chickens. If you're into vegetables, you need to grow the staple vegetables first. I’m talking about:

  • Peppers, onions, and garlic.

  • Leafy greens and okra.

  • Tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash.

The goal is to grow what you eat and then expand. Once you have mastered growing the things that actually fill your plate, then you can try your hand at the exotic stuff later.

Infinity Seeds: Never Buy a Pack Again

The second part of this strategy is all about being self-sufficient. You don't want to be constantly coming out of pocket to buy new seeds every single year.

Think about this: there are infinite seeds in one seed. When you plant one seed and get a successful harvest, that fruit or vegetable is going to produce a million more seeds. All you have to do is:

  1. Harvest the seeds from what you’ve grown.

  2. Prep them right by drying them off (napkins work great for this).

  3. Store them properly so they last for years and years on end.

Get Organized

For storage, I personally use an organized bin with different compartments. The kind meant for storing pictures. It keeps everything from getting destroyed or lost. When you harvest, preserve those seeds, and then replant, you create a cycle where you never have to buy that pack of seeds again.

By focusing on these staples and keeping your own seed bank, you’re moving from the "spiritual realm" of an idea into the physical realm of a successful, thriving homestead.

Stay focused, keep problem-solving through the shenanigans, and let’s keep growing. I appreciate each and every person who is a part of the tribe!.
