The Three Basic Necessities and the Modern Disconnect
What’s going on, fam?
Most people today don’t know how to provide those basic things for themselves, but back in our great-grandparents’ and our ancestors’ days, that was normal. In the past two or three generations, we’ve got a disconnect; we’ve disconnected from our food source and our basic life skills, and we have to get back to that.
From Gardens to Carpentry: The Foundation of Self-Reliance

There are five basic and essential survival skills that every grown adult, especially if you are a man, should know. The first skill is growing food, which means planting a garden or keeping poultry like chickens or turkeys.
There is no reason why you should be depending on somebody else to provide your necessities. The second is water filtration, because you need water to survive, and you should know how to filter a fresh water source if the faucets don't turn on during a catastrophic event.
The third is fishing and hunting, which brings in an extra source of protein. The fourth is building basic structures, carpentry skills like using a hammer or a drill, so you can get yourself and your animals out of the elements.
The Final Frontier: Processing Meat and Eliminating Waste
In this blog post, I want to focus on the fifth basic skill: processing meat and preserving your produce. Whether it’s the fish you catch, the chickens you have, or the sheep and cattle you keep, you need to know how to properly harvest it. You need to be able to know how to skin it, how to eviscerate it, and how to use every part of the animal.
On the homestead, nothing goes to waste; you can use intestines for sausage casings, eat the organ meats, or even make dog food from the undesirable parts. You also need to know how to store it so it lasts, whether you are drying it for jerky, canning it, or putting it in a root cellar.
The Biological War and the "Second Brain"
This isn't just about being "handy." We are in a real war, and it isn’t over oil or politics—it’s a war with our food source. It is a biological, weaponized food war designed to keep people obese, sick, and needy. We saw it with that McDonald’s CEO; he wouldn’t even call the burger "food"—he called it a "product". He took a tiny bite and didn't even seem to swallow it because he knows it is poison-filled with chemical preservatives, fillers, and "food science".
Most of what people buy at the grocery store today isn't food; it's just something edible with 20 or 30 ingredients you can't even pronounce. This "mystery meat" is messing up our microbiome, which is our "second brain". Your gut controls your thoughts and influences your mental health; when your gut is all out of whack from processed trash, that is why we see these mental health crises.
Food Independence is True Freedom
To win this war, you have to take your power back. You vote with your dollar every time you spend it. If you keep spending money on processed food, you are giving them the vote to keep diminishing quality while increasing prices. Instead, you need to ethically source your meat or learn to process it yourself.
Knowing how to provide your own necessities grants you freedom. If you can feed yourself, you don't have to live under anyone else’s rules or jump when they say jump. As I always say: "If you give them the power to feed you, you give them the power to starve you".
Invest in a Lifetime Skill: The Lamb Processing Workshop
If you want to learn these skills before it’s too late, join us for our Lamb Processing Workshop on April 24th, 2026. Our last workshop, where we processed a whole goat and 23 chickens, was a major success. This time, we are processing two lambs from start to finish. This is a hands-on learning experience, not just a demonstration. You will learn:
Humane harvest techniques
Proper skinning and breakdown
How to identify and separate different cuts
Meat packaging and storage tips
The cost is $350, and that is the price because I am teaching you a skill that you will be able to retain forever. We provide lunch, and everybody will take home a portion of fresh meat. We are maxing this out at only 10 seats to make sure everyone can truly participate.
Don't be naive and think the grocery store shelves will always be full. Learn how to provide for your family now. Reserve your spot at the link below.
